Public housing provides decent and safe rental housing for
eligible low- to moderate-income families, the elderly, and persons with disabilities. Public Housing is owned and operated by the Newark Housing Authority.
The Housing Choice Voucher program gives eligible families the opportunity to rent from a private landlord. The participant’s rental amount is calculated based upon anticipated gross household income.
How is eligiblity determined?
Eligibility is based upon income and familial status compared to the
median income of our region.
How do I apply?
NHA accepts preliminary applications by telephone or in person. Applicants are welcome to apply when the waiting list is open. It is advertised in the News Journal, in the classified section under “Public Notice.”
What is a waiting list?
NHA uses a waiting list to manage applicants. When the waiting list is open, NHA accepts applications. When your application is at the top of the waiting list, NHA will contact you to set up an appointment at our office for final eligibility determination. At that time, you will be asked to
